Terms of Service

By using Trace Warrior you agree to these terms. They're written in plain language because we'd rather you read them than not.

Who we are

Trace Warrior is operated from the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). "The service" means the tracewarrior.com website, the free network tools, the monitoring platform, and the API. Contact: support@tracewarrior.com.

Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 16 to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for everything done under your account. Tell us straight away if you believe your account has been compromised. Account information you give us must be accurate.

Acceptable use

You can use Trace Warrior for any lawful network diagnostic purpose, including commercial use. You can't use it to scan or probe systems you don't own or have explicit permission to test. This applies equally to monitors. Only point them at hostnames you have authority over. We block RFC1918 and loopback target hosts at create time to enforce this.

In addition, you agree not to:

  • Use the service to break any law, or to harass, disrupt, or attack any network, host, or person.
  • Circumvent rate limits, plan limits, or access controls, or probe the service itself for vulnerabilities without our written permission.
  • Scrape, wrap, or resell the tools or API as your own service without a written agreement with us.
  • Place automated load on the tools beyond what a person at a keyboard would generate, except through the documented API within your plan's limits.

We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that breach this section, and where the law requires it we may report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities. You are responsible for any claims arising from your misuse of the service against systems you had no authority to test.

Free tools and fair use

The 19 diagnostic tools are free, with no account required. Light per-day rate limits apply to keep them fast for everyone; signed-in users and paid plans get higher limits, shown in the dashboard. We may adjust these limits to protect the service.

Plans, trials, and billing

Paid plans renew monthly or annually depending on your selection, and are billed by Stripe. Each paid plan includes a 14-day free trial with no card required up front. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be billed. Cancel any time from the dashboard; your paid access continues until the end of the current billing period. We don't give partial-period refunds as standard, but if something went wrong, email us and we'll handle it like humans. If we change a plan's price, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice before it affects your renewal.

On plan downgrade, monitors over your new tier's limit are auto-paused (oldest monitors keep running). We never block the downgrade itself. Paused monitors keep their history and resume automatically if you upgrade again, or you can swap which monitors run within your limit.

Monitoring service

Monitors run on a best-effort schedule: every minute on Professional and Enterprise, every five minutes minimum on Starter, every ten minutes minimum on Free. We aim for high reliability but the monitoring service is provided on the same as-is basis as the rest of the platform. Free, Starter, and Professional plans carry no SLA. The Enterprise plan includes a response-time SLA defined in your order; service availability targets are agreed in writing.

Alert delivery depends on third parties (email providers, your webhook endpoint, Slack) that we don't control. Don't make monitoring your only line of defence for anything where failure would be catastrophic. We deduplicate alerts at the same severity within a 24-hour window so a flapping check doesn't flood your inbox. Recovery alerts fire when state returns to OK.

Webhooks

When you configure a webhook URL we POST a signed JSON payload to it on alert events. You are responsible for the security and uptime of the endpoint you provide. Verify the X-TraceWarrior-Signature header against the per-monitor secret we issue before trusting any payload, and don't point webhook URLs at internal hosts or third-party services without their permission.

Public status pages

When you toggle a monitor to public, the page at /status/<slug> is publicly accessible to anyone with the URL. You are responsible for the content of the monitor name and target you choose to share publicly. We may remove a public status page that infringes a third-party trademark or that we believe is being used to mislead.

Your data and our IP

Your monitor configurations and check history are yours. You can export or delete them at any time; how we handle data is covered in the Privacy Policy. The service itself (code, design, branding, content) is ours and protected by intellectual property law. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service; they don't transfer any ownership.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using the service or delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you creates a security or legal risk for us or others. Where reasonable we'll warn you first. If we terminate without cause, we'll refund the unused portion of any prepaid period.

No warranty

The tools and monitors are provided as-is and as-available. We work hard to keep them accurate but make no guarantees about availability, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Don't make life-safety decisions based on a DNS lookup or a monitor alert.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data, or business interruption arising from your use of the service; and our total liability for all claims in any 12-month period is capped at the amount you paid us for the service in that period (or £50 if you've paid nothing). This reflects the price of the service: a monitoring plan that costs less per month than an engineer costs per hour can't carry the risk of your whole infrastructure.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. For material changes we'll give signed-in users reasonable notice (email or an in-app notice) before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after the effective date means you accept the updated terms. The "last updated" date below always reflects the current version.

The legal wrapper

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you keep any mandatory protections and court access rights of the country you live in. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Cookie Policy are the whole agreement between us about the service.
